Gravity fill leak

I discovered my potable water gravity fill was leaking back to the camper whenever it overfills or gushes out of the fill neck and/or vent. I need to rip that sucker out and put a new one in. Are they repairable or just remove three screws, scrape caulk, repair, recaulk? Nothing beats reattaching exterior screws to foam walls.
  • I teflon taped a scenario.....still leaked but lessor. Next test used silicone caulk..does not touch the actual interior of the gravity fed inlet tube or glassed camper exterior. i ran a bead on the inner tab, twisted it, compressed the two connecter tabs, and than ran a bead around the exterior. This fitting should have an o-ring or gasket to function better (compress and not leak by design).

Imagine a strict boondocker losing 3/4 of the water schloshing out down the road and slowly destroying the camper.

i'll test for an over flow leak in the morning, and deal with complete rip out/install new gravity fed inlet exterior mount ($17 to $20) in warmer May. Camper is approaching 6 years old about due for a complete reseal to be done by dealer.
  • I tightened all clamps and had to run a series of scenarios replicating the leak. Only occurs when water gushes out of the vent down onto the center fitting. I can see day light from inside the trailer and outer center flange.
  • The outer trailer body center fitting spins freely and does not seat well. id rather rip it out and put a new one in.
  • I had the same issue, found the larger fill tube is hard plastic and does not seal to the filler port very well. Removed the white sidewall filler and really cranked down on the clamp till it had a good bite which I could not do through the kitchen cabinet. If I remember correctly, the center of the filler port, where you insert the hose to fill the tank, unscrews from the main body. Caused some problems reseating it in the whole assembly, you may find it easier/better to remove the whole assembly.

Kind of hard to explain, hope this is clear enough. By the way, I think this is how water got into/under my floor, eventually rotting out the lower plywood.
  • Assuming you are talking about filler and not the tank itself, mine looked like this (see link). A food grade hose connects filler to tank and the vent line is another small tube. Both tubes are held in place by what looks like nothing more than radiator clamps. You might just a loose clamp. I wouldn't rip stuff out unless you absolutely have to.

And when I bought a little longer hose, RV place said there was 2 or 3 sizes. So don't trash any hoses until you match up the diameter in size.

I just put putty tape behind plastic filler and outside siding to keep water tight.

First couple times filling, I watched for leaks.

(Thanks for bring that up I need to add to my spring time check list, to make sure clamps are tight).

    Hope this helps
