Grease fittings

How many grease fittings are there for the 2012 Chevy 2500HD D/A CC SWB ??? Seems each time I have the truck serviced I am supplied a different answer.
  • The reason for multiple answers on how many fittings is because the people doing the PMs are usually unskilled/lower paid employees doing the work. You normally will not find skilled mechanics/techs performing those tasks.
  • Look up Fabtech Chevy 2500 HD Tie 71002 3 X as large in diameter as Chevy and grease zerks. Original Chevy tie rods on 2500s have been known to break. I bought mine and it took about 2 hr to get them on and then I took it to Firestone and had a livetime alignment done for $150. Stopped some road walking also.
  • Lots of posts with pictures on the truck forum websites showing the locations of the grease points. The three in the middle are very difficult to reach and I bought a right angle adapter and a pistol grease gun to make the job as easy as possible.

GM recommends adding grease every 3,000 miles with these trucks so I do it myself as my oil change intervals are very 7500 miles and I don't trust the oil change guys to go the job properly even then.
  • There are only 9 on model year 2011 and up trucks as the two inner tie-rod zerks have been omitted.

Up to and including model year 2010 trucks have 11 fittings.
  • My 2006 had eleven but my 2013 has fewer-I think 7 perhaps 9-but not sure because I am not home to check but it was greased when new in Jan. I do know that there are places on my 2013 that does not have grease fittings that my 2006 does.

If you are getting different answers it may be that not all are getting greased. That is something that only you may be able to verify. I suggest you check it out thoroughly so that the person greasing it gets all of them. If you are having someone grease it, ask AFTER the grease job how many they found.
