Grease zerk on axel.

I have a 1990's vintage Palomino and have always hand packed the bearings. Last fall I burned out a bearing.

I noticed that there is a grease fitting on the axel that seems to exit near the back of the axel.

So the question is, are you supposed to fill the entire space between the inner and outer bearings with grease or am I missing something here?

  • I've always packed the inner and outer bearings by hand and put some on the spindle to lube the seal. You might want more in a boat trailer to keep water out. I've never had a problem with either.
