Roof Top Tents have a lot of advantages over ground tents. Setup is fast, they open like a clam shell with the poles in place the pad and sleeping bag is inside ready for use. Breaking camp is just as easy, it's like closing a book. There are a lot of advantages to having the tent elevated; no dirt inside, not pitching a tent in the mud, stable in the wind. Creepy crawly things don't come inside either. Plus the feeling is like sleeping in a tree house with a good view.
Yes there are tradeoffs as already mentioned, they are more expensive than a ground tent. The ladder thing too if you are a member of the small bladder club.
We like ours and use it with the Jeep when camping where the TC can't go.
