I am still running my small footprint trailer on the roads... Doesn't cost much to operate it - truck gets great gas mileage - we have all the modern conveniences we want.
Just less moving around room inside which makes us enjoy the outside more.
We were big time TENT campers from the 60s up thru 2008 when we finally put some wheels on the ground. We would load up the Jeep utility trailer and head for off-road tent camping sites. About the only expenses would be tires on the Jeep and the utility trailer. Got great gas mileage. Our life style was being JEEP CAMPERS and not RV TRAVELERS...
Not much has changed now after 2008 - Still going to where we want to go and doing more camping than traveling...
My 4WD Truck will pull our OFF-ROAD POPUP trailer just about anywhere we need to be going to.
Almost went the larger trailers a couple of times but in the end stayed with what we really enjoy. Moving your whole house down the road just never made much sense to us... When the grandkids come along they would love setting up tent camps then sleeping inside the trailer anyway... Actually so would we grown-ups...
The RV Traveling we do is usually meeting up with family once a year somewhere most of the time going to Myrtle beach. The family crews show up beat-up pretty bad driving the big ole machines always looking for a pull out and where they can gas up somewhere.
We usually make our 400-450 mile one way trip meeting up with the family members on one gas up and are as fresh as we can be when we arrive.
Wouldn't have it any other way...
All depends what you want to do I reckon. We would rather be RV CAMPERS instead of RV TRAVELERS... There is a difference...
When parked at home my beefed up OFF-ROAD POPUP camper becomes our house power supply on wheels when bad weather is here and no county power available. We always have a warm bed to sleep in if needed and most of the time can just run a couple of extension cords from the trailer to the house to keep the OTA HDTV, some lights, fridge and fireplace blower going when needed.
Looks like we may be doing just that as this latest snow storm approaches the Northern Neck country of Virginia later on tonight and tomorrow.
We pretty happy if all we have is our fresh ground bean coffee and keeping warm
Makes watching "ALASKA-The Last Frontier" more enjoyable when the weather is bad outside. Like OTTO - we can survive pretty well with what we have.
The adventure still goes on...
