We are buying our first camper and I have spent over a month researching and am down to a very difficult choice. I'd appreciate any opinions from experienced campers.First, we do a lot of tent camping with our two children (5 & 7) so I am confident we will use it often every year and for at least the next 10 years. Second we are conservative and try to be very balanced between value and cost.So, I was about to pull the trigger on the Passport 2650 for a great price when I stopped to consider saving a lot of money on the grey wolf 26BH ($6,500 cheaper). Although I really like the passport many of the features aren't "required" as we are very used to staying outside when we camp.However, moving into a nice camper may change our habits and I don't want to be regretting the decision to save the money in a few years. I understand there is no "right" answer and would appreciate any opinions on the topic.

Not familiar with either one so I'll ask:What are some of the "features" that the more expensive one has over the other..? The features that you think, "aren't required."Also, please consider quality in your decision.

I have friends with a Grey Wolf 26BH and others with the Passport 2910BH. Both have served them well with no real issues over the past 2 years.They both come with similar features, one just does it nicer than the other. The Grey Wolf is an entry level cheaper trailer. It shows when you look at the fit/finish and quality of materials used up close. I find it to be cramped and dark inside, no slide and small windows. The Passport IMO is more "luxury" if you will. It's really personal preference when it comes to picking between the two. How much is the upscale look and materials worth to you?One benefit of the Grey Wolf, thieves will likely bypass it. Not meaning to offend anybody by that but it happened here. Twelve TTs at our storage facility got broken into, including the ones on either side of the Grey Wolf, but they didn't touch it.For comparison shopping my friends '12 Grey Wolf was $13k CAN. out the door. It has the standard aluminum siding and full power package (awning, tongue, jacks, tv) as well as the flip down rack on the rear bumper. For that price, I can overlook a lot of things.

My opinion is to get the trailer with the most space inside, which probably means with a slide out. I don't think many people regret getting a slide, but I've read a lot of people end up trading for a slide model because it starts feeling cramped. Think about space as your kids get older. Out of those choices, I'd go with the passport.

Love my Jayco Jay Flight 26BH. Really loaded and made with stick and tin. I hate glued fiberglass. I'd get the Grey Wolf before a Keystone Laminated camper.

Jay Flight has everything I could want, fully loaded, built very good, and very reasonably priced.

Just throwing that into the mix. BTW, I wouldn't want a slide unless I really had to have one. The Jayco's floorplan is very spacious and spread out.

You'll find the features of the Passport and maybe even more on the Jay Flight with the integrity of a wall that won't come unglued. Not saying they will but I've seen enough Passports and other Keystone RVs delaminate to say I would steer clear of them.

Not a fan of Forest River as they do go cheap on features and build quality as I've owned a Rockwood and owned only 1 year after trading up to a StarCraft.

There's other makers out there with similar floorplans, I just can't remember off hand.

I know for the money, the Jay Flight is very hard to beat. My '12 26BH was only $5K more than my '07 StarCraft low wall, none slide pop up. Hard to believe but true.

The Jay Flight 26BH is nearly the same floorplan as the Grey Wolf 26BH.

The Jay Flight 25BHS is the same floorplan as the Keystone Passport 2650BH but the Jay Flight is MUCH HEAVIER at 1000 lbs more due to stick and tin construction.

The Jay Flight Swift 267BHS is an alternative with less features than the Passport but more than the Grey Wolf, is not as heavy as the 25BHS and still has the super slide. The Jay Flight 28BHBE is the upper line Jay Flight with all the features as similar floorplan to the lower end 267BHS, but with a dry weight of a whopping 6430 lbs!

The wife and I are looking at this exact trailer. We have three kids so one will be sleeping on the couch. Has anyone slept on it? reasonably comfortable?

Thanks to everybody for taking a moment and helping a new buyer. The insights from experienced campers really helps to understand the benefits of the passport and made our decision easier. Even with all my research several points were raised I hadn't considered. I'll post my first impressions after we pick up the passport next week.

I agree with most of the others here. The Passport is one of the best selling light weight travel trailers in the last couple of years. We have looked at them and they seem to be a fairly well built trailer without breaking the bank. And having gone from a trailer with no slide to a trailer with a deep(36")slide,I can tell you that on a rainy day you will realy like the extra room.
