Growth of Midsize Pickup Trucks

When I lived in Japan, I noticed most of the the Hilux pickups had a 1,000 kg payload decal on the tailgates. That is roughly 2,200 lbs. payload rating. Some research showed the springs to be the same as the Toyota pickups in the states had. They have very low speed limits and very short distances to travel, on average. I surmise many other small Nations are in similar circumstances, distance, speed, etc. What might be a white knuckle drive by our standards, would seem quite normal for many other folks in the world. If it moves when they depress the accelerator, and (eventually) stops, it is fine by their standards. Australia is awesome and unique. The same size, roughly as the U.S., with long distance, high speed travel being commonplace, as it is here.
