I have a 2005 Dodge Diesel 2x4. 310 hp, 625 lbs of torque
its a great truck,
90K miles and it pulls my 27ft bumper hitch trailer camper fine.
I have the transmission serviced every 35K miles, oil changed and adjusted bands as necessary at the dealership.
so it pulls and shifts fine.
it's great knowing you have the extra power when you need it.
if you look at a Dodge 2005 model automatic transmission,
note to file: you have tow haul mode, but you cannot lockout over drive, I understand on other models you can.
no more than I pull, that has never been a drawback even when pulling in the mountains. however, if I were pulling a heavier trailer that could be a factor.
the newer trucks with their transmission hold back features, should would be nice coming down a mountain.
You need to check out the hold back feature of any truck you look at before you buy.
who cares what it can pull, if it cannot stop you or slow you down coming down out of the mountains. The cheese gets binding fast!!!!!!!!!!
as I understand diesel engines do not have the same hold back ability as a gas engine, so you are more dependent on the transmission to help hold back the load.
would be nice to have a Jake brake on my old truck sometimes.
