Gulf Stream Vista Cruiser RBK (2014)

My wife and I are looking at getting a Gulf Stream Vista Cruiser RBK next month. We will have 3 young kids less than 5. Does anyone out there own one? How is it holding up for you? Should I have any concerns? Any powerful questions I should ask when purchasing?

Our camping will be mostly in Arizona. We will tow with a highlander (5000) lbs capacity.

Thanks,
Benjamin
  • The payload is 1500. I don't notice a GCWR rating on the manufacturer webpage like I do for trucks.

    Thanks,
    Benjamin
  • 1st, good choice for aerodynamics. Wind resistance is HUGE.

2nd, the tech at my local dealership didn't care for the quality of the build on these. I hope they got better.

3rd, Get the best quality WDH you can get. I recommend a Equal-i-zer 4P or Reese Dual Cam. You don't want to be blown around.
  • Was the tech concerned about something in particular? I searched for those reporting issues online, but found few. At the RV shows I have visited there is lots of duplication in component usage between manufacturers. These have aluminum bodies and the pod design cuts about 500 pounds, plus there are two less joints. It seems there is a little less that can go wrong. The interior woodwork seemed standard to me, but I am no expert. I didn't notice screw tear out, which I sometimes saw on other campers when I searched the storage drawers. I can't judge plumbing well from the RV shows.

Benjamin, what floorplan are you going with?

This was about 18 months ago when looking for our trailer, but he was saying that it took him several hours to fix things that shouldn't have left the factory the way they did. Things could have changed. Every manufacturer has bad stuff and good stuff that they put out. Maybe they just got a couple of bad ones.
  • I am planning on going with either the RBK or CSK floorplans. I'm leaning toward RBK due to weight and since I favor living space over sleeping - when the kids are old enough they can go in the tent.

Could be, regarding the "couple of bad ones". Thanks for your feedback.

Did anyone go through the process of buying one of these and actually breaking it in? Any relevant experiences with that?

    Thanks,
    Benjamin
