We’re mostly talking caunkle rules vs US here. Have heard many 1st band accounts of the CDN weight cops being less than flexible. To the point that a buddy had to get a new trailer for his boat after moving to Canada even though it was the trailer that came with the boat new in the US and legal in the US.
Here south of the Maple Syrup Curtain, it is not near as big of an issue or possibly not an issue at all.
One little town I lived next to as a kid, hired an ex DOT cop and his entire purpose in life was revenue generation for equipment violations and that guy probably wrote 50 tickets a day. But never got hassled for weight, even in that scenario.
