Had an oh **** moment!

does anybody have problems with the xchaulks loosening? We were stacked up pretty high with levelers and I went on the roof to get a foam piece I used on the top of the slide and the trailer proceeded to roll forward about a foot with my wife hanging out the door and me on top with a wet roof. I got them because they were supposed to keep the trailer put. Do they just need to be re tightened? Thanks for any help.

  • As others stated, they are not chocks to prevent the trailer from rolling, but are designed to prevent rocking between the tires which is what causes the movement in the trailer when walking around. You should always use regular wheel chocks(not chalk, the trailer will grind them to dust) when you park it, let the tires cool, reset the chocks, and then insert the X-Chocks, after you have the stabilizers down and locked. One of the things stated several times in the paperwork is once installed, do not move any of the stabilizers or front jack or the X-chocks will get damaged, or cause tire damage.

I have both regular wheel chocks, the plastic ones from Walmart, and X-Chocks and used them both this weekend for the first time, and they do help keep the trailer stable, but the do need to be setup correctly.
  • Any "between the tires" chocks like x-chocks, Rotochocks, etc will loosen as the tires cool down and contract.

After setting them when you first park, it's a good idea go go back after the tires have cooled and then adjust them tighter.

As mentioned, they are more to reduce movement when walking around in the trailer, you need real wheel chocks to stop rolling. I actually tossed mine in the recycle bin years ago when we had our 5th wheel.
  • I read somewhere on this forum that xchocks are not to be used as chaulks! Xchocks are to be used as stabilizers only! Wheels should have chocks under them to hold trailer from rolling.

Just as stabilizers are not jacks.
  • I do not have them, but from what I have read, the instructions state that they are not intended to be used alone to hold the rig in place, i.e. regular chocks also needed. Apparently they are intended more as stabilizers than for chocking.

X chock will not by themselves keep your Tt from rolling, and in fact they are NOT designed to. they are designed to be used with regular chocks. X chock are to help take movement out of the trailer as you walk around in it. they will NOT anchor it, and stop it from rolling.

Just about any chock can loosen.
