Half Ton MPG Actual vs Advertised Test

TFL Trucks did a fuel economy test on a Chevy Trail Boss, Ford Raptor, and Ram Rebel with E Torque and compared the actual fuel economy to the advertised fuel economy.

Brand____Actual___Advertised___Delta
Chevy____19.3_____20___________.7
Ford_____17.29____18___________.71
Ram_____17.9_____22___________4.1

  • If you watch the video, they say the Ram is basically new with only a couple hundred miles on it, where the other trucks have a few thousand. They also mention that Ram does not have the EPA do a different MPG estimate for the Rebel version of the Ram 1500 4x4. The Rebel is an inch higher, has the knobby tires, and IIRC, no air dam in the front. Those will all lower highway mpg, so they should. They mention that for those types of reasons, Chevy has the EPA do a different mpg number for the Trailboss version of the Silverado. Lastly, E-Torque will have little to no benefit at highway speeds.
  • Dang, the Raptor and Rebel highway mileage is about the same as my combined mileage.
