A TT is certainly not for everyone. For me, my TT was the tool needed to get the job done. That is multi-week travel or a weekend jaunt on short notice with minimal set-up and teardown.
Convenience is of course offset by the initial cost and maintenance. Some find it too burdensome other do not.
