Yes if tou do not use a soecific hitch to take the stress out they will fail. Normal WDH's do not work
Again, yes, it's happened but usually it's a design/manufacturer error. There is no rash of trailer a-frames falling off because they have been stressed. You are solving a problem that doesn't exist...unless you are simply being abusive (say taking that mudhole you show at 50mph).
By the way WDH are no for off road use. If you are going to be turning down some rough back road, generally best to remove the bars. You won't be going fast enough to benefit from the WDH and are likely to exceed the operating angles possibly damaging something.
