Has anyone replaced their tub with a shower?

If you are wanting something that will fit in the space you have, but want a shower basin vs. a tub, go to a boat or car fiberglass repair shop. Yes, they will have to special make a mold and lay in the gel and fiberglass, but it will be custom made to fit in the space, and exactly what you want.
A guy I flew remote control planes with custom made fiberglass planes from molds that he built. If he (an at the time (early 90's) retired WWII pilot) could design from scratch, build and fly these planes, then a good Fiberglass shop should be able to make a basin for you.
