hauling a 10 foot camper

I want to know the consensus on hauling a 1994 Lance 8000 (10.9 foot) on a 1999 f 250 super duty "SHORTBED" for a one time short distance (about 75 miles) all interstate. Lots of traffic, urban area, should be able to drive about 55mph.
Any opinions on if this is something that could be done?
  • Presuming the camper will ride in an 8’ bed with no tailgate fine, leavingthe tailgate down on the shortbed will give you about 8’ of support. CG will be back more than a long bed but front wheels should stay on the ground, lol.
For the nay sayers on the tailgate, I was skeptical but had to haul our AF camper to AK with the tailgate on. I’ve ran it many thousands of miles like that and it was taking some weight. Tailgate has some good dents (not unlike the bed).
  • I haul my 12 foot Lance on 2000 F250 shortbed.
It was flatbed and Lance scaled 4300 lb when I pick it up.
Quite scary long drive home, but new tires hold the overload just fine.
I put spare wheel on front bumper for better weight distribution.
