I use a front hitch and large tool box to carry various things. Being that I have a Honda 2k genny, I carry a small elec. chain saw to cut up local forest wood near my campsite.
I did add a pvc tube on both sides to try to increase cooling, it does help most of the time on short hills but is not too much help on long 1 mile plus runs . Therefore I think a front rack loaded with wood would not make a big difference for a short run and might allow enough air to flow in between the wood if you stack it north/south. My temps climb to 210-220F in the summer heat on long hill climbs with the tubes installed.
To be honest, I don't know if that's good or bad. :h
Someone on this forum made a good suggestion to me, he said to use two smaller boxes so air would flow in the middle of the boxes. I believe that would actually be better if you used a box set up . Just cut your wood accordingly.
