Uhhh, no to the 2 engine output options. 1 engine, 3 different transmissions that offer 3 different outputs via trans selection.
Ok, what is the G56 output? I thought it was 370/800 like the 68RFE. While you just had to point out that I was technically not correct, my point is that you do get more than one horsepower/torque option unlike the other brands. I do understand it's tied to transmission selection.
they de rate the engine VIA tuning for each transmission
the Old G56 gear box cant handle the torque so they detune
the 68RFE they tune the engine to what she can handle reliably, Kids throw 120Hp tunes and blow the trans then complain its a junk trans. Us adults tune it for better shift pattern and some better timing.
the Aisin 69 they say is the bomb and can handle this tune to get this torque, the only problem is the trans is un tune able...it shifts like it does and thats what it is. Hopefully they are working on cracking the code to mate the trans better to Rams computer and make it tune able.
so technically its not 2 different engine options or 3 different trans options for rated torque numbers. Its the tuning in the computer system defueling and timing the engine to save the transmission. You can take a G56 equipped truck and re tune it and make greater than the Aisin equiped truck torque numbers easily...but the clutch wont handle it.
This is why I stuck with the 68RFE trans. My buddy has a land development business. His 07.5 has pulled 14-20k#s since it drove off the lot, 5 days a week. At 300k miles tuned and deleted he has not had 1 problem with the truck or the transmission.
