HD Diesel Cost Comparison

It seems Ford and Chevy/GMC have always been a tick higher priced than Ram but that "tick" seems to be growing. Maybe it's that Ford and Chevy/GMC both just rolled out redesigns of 2017 and Ram didn't but wow is the gap getting big.

I know we all have our favorites but from what I see we're talking roughly 8K less for a Ram than a comparably equipped Ford or Chevy/GMC.

PLEASE...... Oval and Bow Tie fanboys in the "I wouldn't drive a Ram if it were free" hahahah camp..... save your breath. We all have a price and we all know what you like. Like I tell my 7 year old... let's try to focus :)

To be fair I am currently in a Ram gasser and pretty much keep a finger in the wind as to prices. I'd for sure being going diesel if I were to change. I came out of a Duramax which was an amazing truck and had a Ford years ago and would gladly buy one again. I also have driven Toyota, Subaru and Nissan for extended periods so obviously I have zero brand loyalty.

My only loyalty may be a bit more cost savings with the Ram as I have some accessories that would swap to a new one which only further widens the cost gap for me.

From shopping Dennis Dillon Ram vs. GMC a 2500 4X4 Denali GMC is around 60K and a Laramie Ram can be had for around 52K. I haven't found a good source for bottom line Ford pricing (please share if you have one) but from my poking around it seems to be very close to Chevy/GMC.

In a nutshell I just find myself wondering is a Ford or Chevy/GMC 8K better of a truck? I know many would (and probably will) argue that for same money it's a better truck. That 8K is just a HUGE chunk of $$. Essentially, it's the difference between a gasser Ford/Chevy or a diesel Ram. I haven't actually shopped that but as I type this that thought is obviously crossing my mind.

  • Nothing wrong with buying a Dodge/Ram there a good truck. I purchase what best fits my needs at a price I can afford, I have owned all 3 brand's as well. 8k will pay for a lot of campgrounds.

Now that's funny. Keep up the propaganda. There's a reason why Ram's resale value is lower than the other brands.

A year ago I paid much less for a Ford Platinum than what GMC wanted for a Denali...I never priced a Dodge.
  • One of the reasons I am driving a Ram 5500 verses a Ford F550 also was price. I was able to get more for my money by buying the Ram.

  • This was a big factor in my decision to pick up a Ram 2500.

OTD 2016 Ram 2500 4x4 Cummins $41,500 last April. (no TTL)

I couldn't get anywhere close on the other trucks when pricing them last year. I actually preferred the Ram for some other minor reasons as well so the decision was easy for me. It was pretty easy to find a Ram Tradesman with the options I wanted and much more difficult/impossible to find an XLT with similar options, and the prices were way to far apart to justify. I personally only care about the more "utility" options rather than some of the creature comforts. The must haves for us were; Tow mirrors, anti-slip diff, back up camera with a good screen(not the 2x2 rear view mirror one), etc. My truck doesn't feel or look "bare bones" at all and I've been more than happy with it! A similarly priced Ford or Chevy would have been an absolute work truck with zero options and probably still cost a few thousand more.

You are right though from my shopping experience on pricing and it is a shame.
