I have been for DRL, but I live in state that only has 8 hours of daylight in the winter and many days are overcast or raining. If you look at the studies and statistical data collected, most claim only only a 10% reduction in head on collisions but over 30% reduction in left turn collisions.
I have found most vehicles allow you to bypass DRL by engaging the emergency brake to the first notch - This will engage the switch yet typically not engage your brake shoes. For those having a legitimate reason to move their vehicles without having the lights activate, a method has long been available in many vehicles.
