Hmmm...
What do the environuts have to say about fuel saving?
Don't they usually say that even if you only save a teaspoon of fuel in 100 miles, when that is multiplied by 5 million vehicles it becomes a LOT of fuel, and it is definitely worth saving?
Yet, when it comes to the fuel saved by not having a load on the alternator (yes, it is about a teaspoonful per 100 miles, certainly no more than that), it is a non-issue due to the perceived increase in safety.
Our motorhome has lights that come on with the ignition. They are mildly annoying, but not enough that I am going to attempt to disable them.
given the push for mpg, I suspect that if DRL had ANY measureable negative effect on economy GM would NOT have DRL on ALL their U.S. vehicles, since they are not required in the U.S.
Exactly. My Volt has DRLs. The electric range is far more affected by the climate controls than even having the full lights on. You want to save more than a teaspoon of gas? Turn off your climate control fan and roll your windows up. Slow down and drive at your vehicle's optimum speed. Avoid jack rabbit starts and sudden stops. Don't idle excessively. Check your tire pressures and inflate them to the max. Don't pull a 5 ton trailer. DRLs are probably last on the list of things to worry about when it comes to fuel efficiency.
If you just don't like them, I'm ok with that as long as the law doesn't require them.
