- 6_2SuperdutyExplorerThanks for the comments. I am still considering this model. The build quality appears to be about the same as my Bullet. I looked up the specs on the Jayco White Hawk and a comparable floor plan is about $30k compared to $23k for the Mallard. The dealer that has the Mallard has almost $2000 in fees ontop of their advertised price. $990 for shipping,$700 for a battery, propane, and technical instructions,$200 for paperwork.
- GrandpaKipExplorer IIJust about all box campers are “slapped” together, even the so called high end ones. Lots and lots of staples. Same construction methods, different materials. Debris swept into cavities, plumbing not tightened properly, trim not quite done right, etc, etc.
I would not get too concerned over brands as much as the particular unit itself.
As an example, at the last RV show, we went into 2 almost identical Jaycos. There was definitely a difference in the fit and finish in each. They were the same size and about the same price. Maybe one was a Friday job. - johntinacampingExplorerWe have a 2015 M28 and love it. Mallards are identical to the Wilderness line made by Heartland. Mallards are simply branded for Camping World. All the comments like "built very cheaply" are laughable. Our unit is built as well any other travel trailer in mass production. Find the floor plan you like and go from there. If you want a trailer that isn't "slapped together", look at an Oliver built in TN, Bigfoot brand, Casita or something along those lines. Otherwise, people simply don't know what they're talking about. Some aren't satisfied if they don't have solid surface countertops, "upgraded fixtures", stainless steel appliances, etc. All that cr^p is cosmetic; nothing more than eye candy. The guts of the trailers are all the same, with the exception of the aluminum wall framing on some. Sometimes it is useless to ask advice on this forum because all you get are dismissive shallow comments that are based purely on opinions over cosmetic differences.
- trailer_newbeExplorer IIIIf buying new I would avoid this brand. The interior was slapped together, with mostly lower end materials. Exterior examination looked basically the same. There were at least 15 of them right across the cart path from the 2018 White Hawk we were looking at. Interior and exterior there was no comparison. In fairness to Mallard, they were around $5-6k cheaper.
- VulcanmarsExplorerWe looked at them when shopping for our current trailer. Other than the smooth sides it's a basic low-end trailer.
- trailer_newbeExplorer IIIThe 2018 models I looked at appear to be built very cheaply. They look good from a distance but not so good up close.
