Coming from a Honda Pilot is going to be a big change, but plenty of people do it. I'm fortunate to have a company car that I drive often, but my 2500 is still my personal use vehicle. It rides pretty good, the diesel engine gets surprisingly good mileage around town. I average around 18 combined... which I consider amazing for an 8000 lbs vehicle.
Smaller parking lots are annoying, but I always find a spot somewhere. I don't think you will regret the decision, especially if you are going to be getting into a larger trailer in the next couple of years. Good luck!
