You can buy the parts from Dometic, they are quite proud of them and this pride is reflected in the price. Also they will have to (most likely) bring them in from Europe so you are looking at 4 - 6 weeks. You can order then directly from the UK or Germany, combined price including shipping will probably be less than Dometic, those companies typically ship DHL and it is normal to receive them within a few days. Search on ebay.uk and ebay.de.
And yes, the Heki is a very poorly designed piece of gear.
It would not be hard on a NL or Bigfoot to close down the hole in the shell to the size required to use a more readily available hatch. It is after all just fiberglass and being on the roof it doesn't even need to look perfect. But you also have to trim out the inside, which will have a ragged hole in the headliner.
