If it's over 300HP and they pair it with something along the lines of the Ford HD payload package, it'll be a nice rig.
Well... Hint: The same 3.0L VM Motori powerplant is rated at 240HP and 420 Lb-Ft of tourque in the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Also, FYI: Chrysler has been using VM Motori diesel engines in different vehicles for just over 20 years.
Yes, I know that but do you know the history of Ford's ecoboost? When it went in the truck the numbers improved.
Edit: don't get yourself in trouble...
Those are very realistic and doable torque and HP numbers from a motor of that displacement, almost identical to what VW, AUDI and Porsche are getting out of their 3.0L V6 TDI motors in 2013 tunes.
Most importantly to me will be who is building the HPFP for these italian VM motors.... if it's a Bosch CP4.2 series HPFP and it runs piezo injectors to 2000 bar pressure, it may be failure prone... if it runs solenoid injectors at 1600 bar and also runs DEF fluid to clean up the NOX emissions, it should be relatively problem free, provided there's no user error with filling up with gasoline, or diesel fuel with residual gas in it from the tankers, or fuel with water in it... all of those sloppy issues will roast a HPFP in short order and if a Bosch CP4.2 HPFP, grenade the whole fuel system with metal shards and shrapnel in everything, tank, fuel pumps, lines, rails, injectors, the whole 9 yards.
Dodge better make the front end pretty slick on this truck, more aerodynamic with a lower CD, and clean up all the under belly drag too if it wants to have higher MPG empty and not have the aerodynamics of a brick going 75-80 MPH down the Interstate or highway. That's the only way to get better MPG's when not towing. Been down this road with my 2012 VW Touareg 3.0L TDI w/ 8 speed auto... and 33MPG empty is real numbers, 15.6 MPG towing from Chicago to L.A. with a 21 ft 3800 pound travel trailer in December, on winter diesel fuel, which is lousy for getting good MPG's.
Dodge better keep that black box locked and encrypted to keep the tuner weenies our of it and destroying the motor /engine with unauthorized tunes and tweeks that void warrantys.
