Help! Can I do this

We are on the verge of purchasing our first travel trailer and I am freaking out. We have researched for awhile and found the unit that fits what we're looking for. I'm a bit of an over thinker and planner but what to make sure we are making the right decision.

I have a 2007 new body style chevy silverado 1500
4 wheel drive
Crew cab
Short bed
Factory hitch
3.73 gears
Towing capacity of 7500 lbs

We are looking to possibly purchase
2014 fun finder 266kirb
26' tt equaling 29'10
Dry weight of 5240

I've done the math and looked at it at other angles but am looking for guidance from the experienced on this forum. Is this a good fit truck and trailer, I think the weight is good but want to make sure we are safe.

Thank you guys in advance,
Shayne
  • Your payload capacity is likely closer to about 1/3rd of what you posted.
  • Once loaded, you will be over the 600 lb hitch weight. You are probably looking at the wrong number for your payload.

  • Hi Bruce the trailer gvw is 7490. Our hitch weight is 600 and the trailer hitch weighty is 490. We will having a stabilizer bar, anti-sway and trailer brakes added. Hope that helps clear it up, oh and I believe the payload is 3950 if I am looking at it right.
  • What is the payload of your truck (as stated inside of your driver's side door)? What is the maximum hitch weight of your truck? What is the GVWR of the trailer? What are you going to use for weight distribution and sway control?
