Load truck like your going camping and drive across a set of scales. Subtract scaled weight from GVWR as listed on drivers door post. That is your honest cargo capacity. Read that as maximum pin weight! If in the real world you have 2,000 pounds left over, that means you can handle a 10,000 pound loaded fifth wheel before you exceed your manufacturers GVWR!
Yes this is true if your going by GVWR
Some use RAWR (rear axle weight rating) which is a tad higher.
