I think I see the logic of so many stairs going up to it....since it appears your floor height is going to be about four feet plus off the ground for plenty of basement storage. But then if you go, let's say 6' 6" ceiling height inside, you are 10'6" ( maybe more ) overall, and that is before you put an A/C unit or solar, etc on the roof. Just be aware of what your overall height is going to be.
