Help me indentify the trailer I just bought. Pictures

That really is a more accurate description than travel trailer. It never had holding tanks or fresh water tanks. And it was equipped with a tank type residential flush toilet. Stove and furnace were gas, but hot water tank and all lights were 110V. No 12 or 6 volt anything except marker and tail light and sadly no gas lanterns either (I think those are very neat).

And I had read that there was a huge proliferation of small trailers like these made following WWII for all the returning GI's and the housing shortage that followed. This trailer was towed from a dealer to a trailer court, but never likely used as a camper. And that is what makes it perfect for what we want to use it for, housing in our back yard. Hans

Oh yes, that was the first thing I did when we brought it home and parked it in the garage. Yes, it had been inside a building in the desert since 1970, one of the reasons it is still around to day and not rotted. I removed a small section of roof where it was damaged beyond repair, made a new aluminum patch and repaired the wood underneath the patch area. Then applied the new patch using Butyl tape to seal it, and then went over every lap seam on the trailer with a generous amount of self leveling Dicor lap sealant. Then when all that was cured I rolled out three coats of white rubber roof sealant over the old metal roof. I also replaced the bathroom roof vent and one pipe vent with metal vents that closely match the original. It is water tight on the top, and now that it is under cover I hope it will last many more years.

I agree. These are what you used to see in trailer courts (still do see a few). Less permanent than todays models though.

It's hard to figure how they used to tow those around with regular station wagons and other cars when you need a large truck to tow them today.

The trailer turned out great ! Very nicely done. And, nope, I didn't catch the different size window until you pointed it out !
Your son will have a nice place to stay there for sure.
Thanks for sharing the pictures, and that was cool you were able to tow it to the show with the old truck.

And one more quick trip to show it off before it's set up permanently in our back yard. Below it's in it's new shed and the interior work begins, just some paint and clean up.

Turned out really nice

Above you see the new shed to house the old trailer is built. Sewer is in place, power and water have also been set up. All that is left is to back the trailer in place and get it up on blocks.

Earlier this summer the trailer made one last trip down the road to a local car show. I towed it with my 3/4 ton 1951 International (approximately 80HP), that was a thrill. It was a hit at the car show, the only vintage trailer there.

Now it's all painted on the outside, still have to paint the tongue and wheels though.







Trailer was painted with off the shelf Rustoleum paint. High gloss Almond White and Bright Red. Applied with a foam roller, not sprayed.

Now begins some work on the interior.

The trailer was missing one front window. A local search on Craig's List found the smaller window that almost matched the missing one. My son made a spacer out of aluminum and we riveted it into place, and it's hardly noticeable.
