Help us choose please!

We are upgrading from a pop up to a travel trailer. Looking for a bunkhouse layout somewhere in the 28-30' range and around 6000lbs dry weight. With our budget around 14k max, it puts us in the 2005-2010 range from what our research has found. Please let us know what brand to look for and why???
What brands to look for and what brands to shy away from.

Thanks,
Chris
  • We went smaller so we could buy new. I love that since I have been the sole owner, I know exactly the type and quality of maintenance and upkeep on my TT. My 18ft was under your budget maximum.

We had a PUP for a few years and decided to upgrade to a trailer. We looked at several at dealerships, we knew what we wanted before we started looking. We went to one dealer looking at trailers and he said...hey, you might want to look at this floor plan. We did but we didn't want to buy a new one if we didn't have too, plus this one was 110 miles away. I looked online at a dealer that was about 25 miles away..he had one but it was sold. I did not give up looking...found the same model trailer, used, not 6 miles away from us. It was slightly used, the bed mattress had been upgraded, everything looked new..so it came home with us just a few days later. The hitch was included with it...we love it. We just took our time and looked for what we wanted...hope you find what you want?

Thanks mark and Linda, we are looking and looking. We now know what floorplan we like and doing our research.
    Thank you so much!

  • There are some models that you may be able to find NEW close to your price range. The Jayco 26bh comes to mind.

    Thanks!

  • I agree with what is being said: the brand is not that important when buying a used trailer and there are just way too many brands and models to even begin suggesting what may be the best. I would be looking for one with the floor plan you want that looks and feels like new. There are many trailers out there that have been barely used, despite their age. You will find a barely used one and know it is the right one.
  • Looking at used travel trailers, with six or more years of age, the brand names matter very little. How the trailer was maintained matters a lot.

After a few years, an entry level unit that has been meticulously maintained, would be in better condition than a high end unit that has had minimal maintenance.
  • Condition is the important factor when buying a used RV.
Check for leaks and, check the tire age. RV tires usually age out before they wear out.

Look at all different models and find a floor plan you like. Then start asking questions about the specific model that interests you.

A low end unit in good condition is a better purchase than a high end unit in poor condition.

Take your time, don't be in a hurry to buy. Enjoy the search and use it as a learning experience.
