Bought a new battery and installed it today.
Now everything works!

make sure you monitor your new battery until you know for sure why your old battery died. Unless you have been checking the battery as it charges with a tester, you still don't know WHY your old battery went bad - it could have been the bad outlet, or your converter/charger didn't charge the battery or maybe your battery just got old and used up.
