BTW, the hinge isn't rocket science. On the correct lid, there is a spline that corresponds to the C-shaped slot in the base. You hold the lid at a 90 degree angle to the base, and slide the spline into the C from the side. When you close the lid down, that captures it and keeps it from sliding back out.
What probably happened to your old lid is the spline degraded from UV light and tore away.
