Help With Water Pump Leak

Alright, hoping some of you with a little more experience can help me out. I replaced the water pump in my 04 Outfitter with the new model Shurflo. Really easy. But, when I reconnect the top line, it is now leaking where the brass meets the female plastic connector (see pic).

When I took this connection off the old pump, it had never leaked. I don't think it had any kind of gasket or O ring in it. I am adding teflon tape to the threads of the male connection on the new pump itself. And, I did try an O ring in the female plastic connector, but it still leaks. If anyone could give me an idea what the issue is, and instruct me how to fix it, I would really appreciate it.

Supposed to take my daughter on a campout this weekend.

Thanks for any replies.

Marty

Yes the PEX swivel adapter or faucet adapter uses a gasket. Small cone washer.

    Manf. link gasket just visible
Crown This link shows the nut removed and gasket visible.
Many box stores/hardware carry the fittings. The simple cone washer, matching size just about anywhere.
    Home depot
I use a very light coating of Vaseline on threaded parts and gasket, helps seating faces
edit- oh look at your old pump the gasket may have stuck to it

    Thanks for the replies everyone.

  • My guess is that it's not seated correctly. I wouldn't use Teflon tape. Don't think it would help if it's leaking out of the top section.

I think that type of fitting has a soft cone shaped gasket so you don't have to tighten it too tight. The gasket has to squeeze the brass to prevent a leak. Adding teflon may crack the fitting.

The new pump fitting may not be the exact shape that the old pump had formed in the gasket or it may have fallen out when you weren't looking.

Check a similar fitting to see if it is the type that need the gasket.

Thanks, I will remove the Teflon tape and try it not tightened down so much. Hope it works. Appreciate the reply.
