Help with wheels and tires.

Interesting that the 811 fully loaded is at 4200 lbs. which is 500 lbs. more than my Lance 845 which was my load limit for the camper portion of the payload on the truck. Add a trailer's tongue weight or even a couple extra passengers and load will be over 4500 lbs. which is pushing it. Adding extra suspension items like Supersprings or an anti-sway bar also adds to the load carried by the tires.

With my 17" rims only the Toyo and Nitto Terra Grappler tires provided 3750@80 PSI load capacity. I would have had more choices with 16" rims which are a more common size used on commercial trucks. With 20" rims I would have been SOL.

Glad it handles good! I won't have water 90% of the time so I figure I will be close to 3900 ready to camp with most of the "gear" in the cargo trailer (6x8). Getting excited!

Just to give you an idea on real world weight on that 811.. I have scaled mine numerous times and it comes in at 4200lbs when filled full of water and ready to go camping with gear and food etc. I installed the tires in my sig to increase load capacity to 4080lb per tire. Also installed stableloads and new shocks
My srw 1ton handles it great with those mods.

Well I ordered the the wheels and tires today! Got the toyo's! They will have both the 245 and 225 there to see which one fits. My fingers crossed I can make the 245 work so I get the extra bang for the buck. I got them for $2507 otd. Pics will be up next weekend. Adam

I'd rather have extra and not worry! Ya the guy was just giving an example of how much of the tire was being used. I will have both size tire there and see what fits and what doesn't. If 245 do then sweet and if not I will go 225 and still have my 500# buffer of safety. My old camper is being picked up the 21st and my new one ready that same weekend! I will take it home on my current setup and get a feel for it then on Monday get the 19.5's. I will post up some pictures when it's all done.

You cannot do estimates by using total tire capacity because you will be carrying the majority of the weight on the rear. You need to look at what weight will be on what axle. So you will have a 7960 lb tire capacity using Nittos on the rear axle with 7000-7500 lbs typical weight. When towing, you will want to do the trip with empty tanks and fill when you are close by where you little distance to travel and hopefully lower speeds. If you are not willing to play it that close, you need to look at 245/70R19.5's and figure out your clearances. I know the Vision rims have less inside offset than OEM or Rickson, so this may be an advantage for you on the front.

Based on the info the guy gave me at the store, he took all 4 tires added them up then subtracted my total weight. 18,000 -11,600 or something and said with camper fully loaded I would be using 65% of the tires capability. With a boat a year away I don't see any other set up working. Pay now or pay later! Better do it when I get the green light :-)

Yes, the grapplers could work if the rim is rated high enough. But, the 19.5s also have the advantage of being stiffer which will help the ride and more plies which will help avoid flats.

Well I hit the scale today. Full of fuel I was 4200 front, 2980 rear and 7180 total. So if I say my empty rear weight is 3000 and my camper loaded for camping with water and propane is 4,500 my total is 7,500. 90% of my trips will be empty water so save 400 which has me down to 7,100. Would a nitto terra grappler at 3980 in a 285/75/16 not give me roughly 900lbs of wiggle room? The guy at les Schwab says I can fit a 245/70 19.5 without any front mods...? I'm hearing a 225 is the max for most Chevys. I was quoted $2,900 out the door with toyo m608z in 245 with the vision wheels (4). The 225 would give the same as the 285/75/16 as far as weight capacity goes at a lower price point. I just don't want to spend $3k to be hamstrung to the highway (19.5), when a 285 would work.
