Hensley Hitch Bar Exchange

I know Hensley has a hitch bar exchange if you need a different offset. What I'm curious about is if that exchange is still honored for those that purchase a used Hensley Arrow system from a private party. Does anyone know? I emailed Hensley about it, but haven't heard back. I'm considering purchasing a used set up and want to make sure I still have the option for a cost free exchange (besides shipping). Along the same topic, does the lifetime guarantee transfer to me as well even though I didn't buy it from a retailer?

Any help would be appreciated. I'm ready to make a deal with this guy, but want to make sure I still get all the Hensley benefits. I'm assuming they would honor it since it's still a Hensley product no matter who owns it, but was curious if anyone had any experience with this specific matter.

  • The PP adjustable hitch for the HA is still on their website, and still says "out of stock". Spoke with them last year and they indicated if they got a bit slow they may make a run of them. Otherwise, they are keeping up with PP demand.

Your best bet is to simply buy the drop that you need and keep the straight as a spare.

My dad got a used one and it had an 8" drop. We took it to a machine shop and had them convert it to a 2" drop. Worked like a champ. Cost around $90 IIRC. BE SURE a certified welder is doing the work.

A straight one would be more challenging to convert, as there isn't enough straight bar stock to simply cut and stack to get the drop you need.

$400 is a good price, even if you have to drop the same amount back in on it. I've bought two used, one for 400 and one for 200. Got lucky with my bar and the drop was right.

A friend of mine bought one for 800, but it lots of extras and the paint was still good.

Cliff notes: Buy the 400 as quickly as possible, it's a good deal even if you have to put money into it. FYI, HA will actually buy them back to refurbish for 500.
  • Let me know where that $400 Hensley is and I'll go buy it when we go to Tampa in a couple of months! That is one heck of a deal unless the hitch is completely broken up or something. I'll rebuild it and flip it for $1000-$1200 or so.

  • Hensley confirmed it's a $517 fee to purchase the Lifetime Warranty, which would make me eligible for the exchange program.

I'm looking at a $400 set up that's about 5 years old from someone and they appear to have the straight stinger with no offset. I need to measure to see what I need, but I hear I may need new brackets as well. I just don't want to get a good deal, but then have to drop another $400 or so to make it work. Granted even at $800 it's still a deal for a Hensley, but as of now it's more of a want than a need.
  • I believe the transfer fee was around $500 last time I heard. I also believe it included the free stinger exchange but they may have changed that policy. In my opinion that is way overpriced and not needed. You can always find used stingers and replacement parts are not too expensive in the unlikely event you would need them.

I rebuilt my hitch several years ago and only spent around $50 in parts. Have never bent a strut and even if I did, the replacement part would not cost near $500. The same goes for the jacks. There is not much else to replace without purchasing a whole new hitch.

I would save the transfer fee and just put the money in the bank instead.

  • The "free" hitch bar exchange program is only available for the original owner as far as I know. Any local dealers who sell the Hensley? They will usually exchange for a fee too which may be less than shipping. I have also seen others online looking to swap. Craigslist etc.

Better yet, consider buying the adjustable stinger from Pro-pride. It works with the Hensley and you'll never have to swap again. I wish I had gone this route. I've swapped 3 times in 5 years. Even though I use the free exchange, that's a lot of money in shipping.
  • Ouch.

After some research it seems you have to be the original owner or you need to purchase the lifetime warranty, which is prob the $700 cost.

May be I can get the original owner to send in the old one before selling it to me.

It's been a few years, but they used to charge a fee to transfer those benefits. IIRC, it was 700.00
