I have to agree that the hitch cost is small relative to the rest of the RV expenses.
In my case it would be fixing what is not broke. However, if I had towing issues that would certainly be another matter.
We all end up with certain TV and TT combinations; it seems some are more compatible than others. If an alternate style hitch solves the problem it beats swapping TV’s and TT’s to find the right combination.
You do have problems. And anyone with a similar rig. A truck and a cheaply designed and built trailer. The worst combination possible. The best hitch is a VPP (as Pullrite no longer makes conventional hitches) and it will lower the risk of a loss of control accident.
One need only follow a combination such as that to video the constant movement of the trailer in a different direction than the TV. Reduction of sway and sway elimination are vastly different. No matter how well an WDH with integrated anti sway is set up it is literally obsolete so much is it inferior.
I'll run rings around this type of rig with my one ton and 35' that'll put that combined rig over on its side in a ditch. I can no more shake off this trailer than if it were my shadow. And have tested it at high speeds.
Anyone wants to ignore risk reduction is on their own. But tiresome bleating about not having problems is beside the point. The very best setup of a conventional WDH is no match for a VPP even if it is NOT as well set. So let's not confuse proper setup with hitch types. Separate issues.
At the very least should be upgrades to suspension and brakes to have a cheap trailer perform better. Worst can be made better. Then any hitch and eventually the TV rear tire contact patch isn't so stressed. Same for best brake controller.
In all these things -- as with tires -- there such a thing as best. Why one is better is the value. Not the price.
Those trade for yet another trailer every 6-7 or 10 years have no standing in this as to understanding price vs value in re VPP hitches. What they waste in depreciation buys all these upgrades several times over.
