Competing manufacturers have been jointly developing vehicles and parts of vehicles for years.
Most of Mazda's line of cars and suv's (and their pickup, before the Ranger/B-Sereis were discontinued) are Fords, and have been for years. Back in the days of the Ford Courier pickup, it was Mazda that made the vehicle for Ford. Now it's the other way around.
International and Caterpillar jointly developed the HEUI injection system that made the 7.3 Powerstroke so great. Both companies used that system on most of their engines from that era. In the stationary power industry, Caterpillar and Perkins cross build some of their engines and put each companies name on the same engine design.
