Hello all. We are closing in on ordering our little 18 foot teardrop trailer. We chose to not get the high profile larger rim size tires as we want to keep a low profile and the tires add a couple inches, not to mention the chihuahua will have a hard time with the higher step. :) We are also pulling with an SUV so lower is better. But for conversation sakes, it seems really common nowadays to see little trailers with big storky tires on them. I can't help but think there would be significant mileage hits becausea. the trailer is higher and bigger going thru the airb. it seems those kinds of tires would be less efficient being dragged down the road.c. Finally, are they easy to find if one has a bad string of blowouts? Cheers all.

True, true, and maybe - depends on which particular tire size they are.One advantage of them is higher ground clearance, which reduces the chances of rocks and other objects snagging something on the underside of the trailer.In some cases, they're sold with a "high-lift" axle option that also increases ground clearance a bit.Some trailers have low-hanging dump valves which are prone to road damage, so a couple extra inches of height can be worthwhile - particularly if you like to take the trailer off paved roads.

I think we’ll be fine without the extra 2 inches of clearance. We’ll be dragging it on and off ferries quite a bit though. Hmmmm. Thanks for the input.

The larger diameter the tire, the slower the wheel bearings have to spin. If they aren’t too stiff, a larger tire may be smoother on bumps.

But the mud tire look on little campers is 99% just that. The look. Looks cool, in reality, when’s the last time anyone needed mudders on a travel trailer?

Larger wheels and tires put more stress on everything else, I found that out the hard way with lifted trucks over the years. RV manufacturers are not beefing up the RV construction when they do this, they just use taller springs or taller brackets. It's still the same frame and axles, and usually a pos Lippert frame at that. Nothing more than additional bling, it looks cool.

High profile tires on off road packages on trailers. hmmm

Eye Candy just the same as all the other garbage they cram into them. $2 led strips under counters, exterior speakers with LED lights that cost $6. Pleather furniture that lasts 2 years, etc

Not sure what a lug tread is but the tires that come on the off roading edition of this little trailer look ridiculous. We opted out of them.

It’s a T@B 400. The AC is one of those Norcold Cool Cats that mount in the basement. The T@B 400 doesn’t really have a basement but the AC is mounted under the booth seat. It uses an ALDE system for heat and hot water. We had a chance to get some measurements from our friends the other day. Think it’s going to be a good fit. Not a lot of outside storage but from what we can tell we won’t need it. Probably put a couple things in the SUV (or CUV as everybody seems to correct me on. I’m not sure I know the difference. :).

Yah, pretty much. We talked to the rep yesterday and this is how it worked out. When you order the off-road package among other upgrades (which we want) it comes with a pitched axle which raises the trailer about 1.1 inch and bigger rims and tires which raise it about 1 3/4 inch. We decided to go for the pitched axle but not the bigger tires and rims. We’ll be going on and off lots of ferries so felt it would be nice to have the extra clearance. I’m sure they’ll be an efficiency hit with the extra height but it’s a pretty low trailer to begin with and the air conditioner is in the basement not on the roof. We talked to another Tesla driver pulling the same trailer and this has worked out well for them as they spent the summer dragging their trailer all over BC and had no issues with clearance etc.

Anyway. Learned a little from some of the responses on here. Thanks all.
