High wind and the truck camper

Today the at the RV park in San Diego high winds. Wind started a little after 9 AM at about 14 MPH and then escalated to 34.4 MPH till 3PM, Having a Bigfoot camper with a high profile when should I be really worried? I just retired and have been full starting in January this year. Any advice would be welcomed.
Thanks

  • No issue whatsoever if not driving. If you were driving I think you would still be fine. I know I am fine with my rig. For me gusts well over 40 while driving is when it starts to really be a noticeable problem. Where I might start thinking of other options, like maybe I should pull over and wait a bit. Sitting parked I would think it would take 60 plus mph winds to get scary. I have been in those winds before parked and things do rock around a bit. Of course in that case I would park with the nose facing the wind. I do a lot of driving on I-80 on the plains and 25 to 30 mph side winds are very, very common. But I honestly don't notice the wind until it is over 20 mph.

  • 35 mph isn't that much, I wouldn't worry about it. If it's on the truck, then even a lot more isn't that bad. If it's on the jacks, yeah I'd start worrying at 35, really it should be on stands as low as possible with the jacks just touching per the manual.

I've driven when there were 50 mph sideways gusts, you have to pay attention but it doesn't feel like it's going to fall over - may push you around a bit.
  • I usually pull off the highway when sidewind gusts get to 40 or so or when rig trailers start migrating out of their lane.

I know that these winds wouldn't knock it over but it's just no fun to drive in big side wind. Not sure what to would take to actually tip. 70 maybe? Curious if anyone has studied this.
