Hitch ball size

I just purchased a 1975 28' Carriage trailer. I am picking it up tomorrow but forgot to check the hitch ball size, and the owner doesn't know. Does anyone have any idea what ball size that trailer would require? Thanks!

  • Update - it was a 2 5/16" ball, and luck would have it the trailer came with a WDH setup. Once again, thanks for the help.

Thank you all for your quick replies! I have a standard frame mounted tow package with a 2" ball and no wdh. I will pick up a 2 5/16 ball on the way down. Thanks for the help!

I would look over the tires really good before you take off to make sure they aren't dry rotted/cracked.
  • I would advise for you to get a 2 5/16 ball with 10,000 lb capacity. They sell 2 5/16 balls with 6000 lb capacity. The 6000 lb capacity would be at its limit for that 28 ft trailer. Just my opinion.:D

  • I'm not sure about your trailer but the three 26' trailers I've had and the 28' that I have now were all 2-5/16".
