I was 20 years old in 1975 and remember these truck campers quite well. I was in religious based college in 1975 and heavily involved with church. Our district sponsored a church camp (2 weeks) in August. At that time I owned a motorcycle and tent camped whenever I could. One thing I vividly remember are a couple of these types of truck campers. I was really impressed with them, thought they were monstrously huge, but fascinated with them also. At that time in my life, I envied the traveling evangelists across the denomination that held the 2 week revivals and traveled from church to church in their pick-up trucks and 5er's. I just dreamed of the day I could do the same thing ... get a pick-up truck and 5er and hit the nation to share the "good news!" Well, life took many turns for me (no regrets), I never did accomplish the mission to "save the world", I was doing good just to save my own skin! In time, I did end up with a really great truck, but never got the 5er. I did end up with a TT that makes me just as happy as anything. Still whenever I see a really large truck camper, it brings back some memories for me. Definitely, these photos bring back some forgotten memories! Thanks for sharing.
By the way ... life is not over yet. ... who knows ... I could still maybe someday end up with that 5er! I've definitely got the truck for it! I've talked with my wife often about getting a truck camper (in addition to the trailer), but she keeps saying 'no'!
Thanks for the memories ... "Save the world? NAY! It just too big!"
