- Grit_dogNavigator II^Now that is the most ingenious thing I've ever heard! Seriously!
But a thief could block up your axle, pop the tire and steal your Jenny....
Last sentence was in jest. Of course it could happen, but I wonder where people camp that a decent chain and lock doesn't keep their Jenny safe n sound? - way2nutzExplorerUnfortunately I'm at my winter place, so don't have pics of my Honda mod.
I cut a piece of 1/4" aluminum plate the same footprint of the generator with an extra 10" at one end. Bolted it to the bottom of the generator. I then park the truck on the 10" of plate sticking out past the gen.
Guarantee no one will be cutting it off with bolt cutters.
My son did the same thing, but hinged the piece that extends past the generator so it folds up for storing/transporting. - ajridingExplorer II

You think so? It is all about the value of things to steal.
It was big story few years ago in Napa Valley, where thieves would steal trees... yes trees, who had burlap wood in them.
The value was so great that thieves acting at night were building tents around the tree, set light and using electric saw with quiet generators or inverters would cut the tree down.
How far is that from jackhammer?
Than we were talking here about 5 seconds protections. ...why bother? - mkirschNomad IIYou could encase the thing in concrete, but all a thief would have to do is bring a jackhammer and an engine driven air compressor... Can you see how quickly this gets riduculous?
Look, anyone who thinks for a second that whatever they do to "secure" their generator can't be easily defeated, is delusional. The thief just has to bring enough equipment and have enough time to execute the theft.
The sole purpose of "securing" your generator is to divert the attention of the would-be thief to softer targets. Most thieves are snatch-and-grab types, and their targets are the easy pickin's that they can snag as they casually walk by, so as to not attract attention.
A hardened chain through the handle is going to deter 99%+ of would be thieves, because they don't want to take the time or chance making the NOISE required to grind through that chain. One of the primary requirements of successful thievery is not getting caught, and they WILL go for the chain because the generator is worthless with a cut handle. - AnEv942Nomadajriding FYI - the linked picture hosted on http://www.hilotrailerforum.com are not showing here-

Ryobi gen, but same principal.
A thief can get anything, but the idea is to slow down most. I just had to cut two disc locks off trailer with a grinder. Yes grinder will cut anything, but I was plugged in. Using a battery grinder will require several batteries as it took many many minutes of grinding to get through, and my first cut was not successful, so did three cuts for two locks.
You will notice that the weak link is not the lock, but rather the things it is locked to, easier to cut the bar or door or something than the lock itself. Having a lesser lock might mean thief will not attempt to cut your trailer to pieces. I'd rather lose the thing than have a cut-up trailer to fix.
Used old hitch, and angle iron and stuff from my steel pile of metal. Cost - $0
Painted. The shiny bar runs through slightly bigger pipe pieces and locks to the front.
The strap that goes over is custom bent to shape of the gen and padded with that shop-floor-foam stuff.
The "handles" actually are to keep the gen from being lifted out of its tray and slid sideways.
It is not thief-proof, but is a deterrent, not as nice as the honda thing. Easy to cut the lock (I have the hockey puck one that cant be cut so easy when needed). The straps can be cut of course as can be any of the steel structure, but requires a loud cutter.
In the end I paid less than $500 for this gen, today is still worth less than $600, so there are many more things on rig of more value…
and don't judge my welding skills on this 60 year old rusty metal that is too pitted to get clean…. - Grit_dogNavigator IICamo is a nice touch, esp if you’re camped in the woods where u can stash it in some bushes or trees. Keeps prying eyes from noticing! Like that idea. Although I bought a 4 wheeler with a camo wrap and lost that f(&&):king thing a couple times out hunting!
I took the opposite approach on the generator....since everyone always bitsches about how loud other people’s generators are and how you’re ruining the experience and killing baby seals if you don’t have a quiet Honda generator, I just cut the muffler off mine. Now no one would want to be seen (or heard) with it!

Like the idea, but that looks like a rattler if you want to run generator mounted. - Rickj91Explorerhttps://www.truckcampermagazine.com/camper-mods/honda-generator-locking-mount-on-rear-bumper/
Bob,
My appologies! I thought I was coping the right article. Here you go.
