A/c takes more than 2000 watts to start. Then, they take around 1500 - 2000 watts when not in start mode. Those hard start cap makes up for the extra juice that you need to start the a/c. It's similar to all motors that has an starting circuit to help it get going then the starting circuit disengage and let the run circuit run it till cycles again.
Well I don't know about the wattage on all A/C units but the Honda says 13.5 btu max and my Polar cub is 9500. Someone told me that the Polar Cub only pulls 9 amps. Something is going because too many people are running there A/C off these Honda EU2000i generators.
