We did more than put in hookups, we actually made a campsite on the back of our property. Full hookup site (100 amp electric, water and sewer) with fire ring and table plus in ground lighting. Now when the family comes to visit we give them the house and we move to the camper. Works out great!
Very Nice!

Very Nice! - Old-BiscuitExplorer III30A would work BUT when pulling electrical wire/pwoer pedesatl/electric hookups etc 50A is not much more.
Do it right first time.
And that includes first checking with YOUR local building department so that YOU don't have surprises later and possible added expenses.
I have FHUs on property....
5vr is 50A but electric is 30A and runs everything as needed.
As for cost......it was requirement that RV FHU be on site when we bought home. - ArcamperExplorerWe did more than put in hookups, we actually made a campsite on the back of our property. - BumpyroadExplorerI put a gravel drive/parking area down behind my garage and have a 30 amp outlet on the rear garage wall. If any "guest" cannot get by with 30 amp service, I have directions to a local campground that will provide what they need. so far they have gotten by on 30 amp.
bumpy - mabynackExplorer IIMost towns won't let you do this. My ex-wife's uncle set up something in his yard and the neighbors complained and code enforcement forced him to pull out the septic tank he was using.
I live outside the city limits and have a 30 amp line run to my garage for my RV. I've let my ex stay there a couple of times and I used to sleep in it when I was working nights. - mountainriversExplorer

Assuming I buy a used camper and expect to use all the options, including A/C, how much power will I need?
In your original post you said you merely wanted to use your rig as "a bedroom for overnight guests", now you're saying you want to "use all the options". :h Seems to me you first have to decide what it is you really want to achieve, then base your solution on that conclusion.
I want my guests to have all the comforts of home, especially if I'm relegating them to an RV. I'm thinking things like A/C, tv, interior lights, coffee maker, microwave oven, etc. I would like to have all of those things available in the event that my guests would need them. - hbradyExplorerGetting our guest house ready for Easter visitors. We ran an extension cord from our outdoor outlet (20 AMP), hooked up water but no sewer. Gray water simply gets dumped on the ground 10' into woods. I'll be installing a 30AMP hookup later this summer but will probably never bother with sewer.

Thanks for that information. We would also like to connect water and sewer if possible. Have you considered that, and, if so, how did you connect to the sewer?
First thing is locate sewer trunk line going from house to city line or septic. if the trunk line is anything but pvc call a plumber. If pvc dig the necessary trenches as straight as possible to the connecting point, maintain a 1/4" drop per 10 ft run of pipe and don't have over 180 degrees of bends in the pipe you are adding. You can use 3" pic. Now if you live in an area that requires a permit call a plumber,
