I'm starting to understand why the diesel die-hards hate the ecoboost, because with turbos, it busts all the myths they like to repeat about gasoline engines.
Re-do the comparison with the less powerful ecoboost, and the results would be close.
As for the "torque vs horsepower" debate. That's just anecdotes. Horsepower is basically a calculation of what can be used, through gear reduction. Torque is twist, and it helps in determining the operating rpm range, it really is nebulous, as 500 ft/lbs at 2500rpm is the same effective power, as 250ft/lbs at 5000rpms.
So while a big diesel can lug a hill at 2500, I can pay $15K less for my truck, and pull it at 5Krpm, righto? Diesels have their place, towing an average boat isn't one of those....
