The guys at ford truck enthusiasts website every year or so meet up at a hill in wv and pull a 15k lbs dump trailer up the hill.
The gas and diesel trucks run within 2-3 mph of each other. Even the ecoboost in a half ton runs the same mph at the top as the 6.7 powerstroke. If you want a diesel and a handgrenade of a fuel pump and emission system and pay 10k for it then go for it. but they all pull about the same.
As far as what the 1/4 mile racers say it goes more like this. "horsepower is what matter for mph. tires, chassis, and gearing have more to do with ET"
the thing about the supras is kinda old wisdom. The supra is easy to make huge power and it is real power but unless you do chassis work you are stuck in the mid 11s. Now there are plenty of single digit et supras.
