I keep reading that my Cummins is a $10K option. Strange, mine was a $6K option with a $2K rebate. If my math is correct that's $4K.
And I agree 100% with the opinion vs facts statement.
I got $9k off the MSRP with my '05 Hemi powered 2500HD. Low demand. Cummins Rams were selling at MSRP. That amounted to well over $14k for the diesel option. If gas powered HD pickups were selling like diesel powered HD pickups, your math would be correct.;)
At the time that I bought mine, Dodge had that additional $2K rebate on Cummins vs the standard equiptment Hemi. That says Cummins overstock to me. Probably the same reason that the dealer was willing to sell a $7.5K option for $6K. (Wanted to get one off of his lot). Sometimes rebates are regional, but are usually always given to move excess inventory. If the Cummins had cost me $14K, I would have stuck with the Hemi. I had one in my '06 and loved it on flat land, in the mountains not so much.
Bottom line, apples to apples, it's $10K, give or take, and like I said. I've run the numbers, it is impossible to justify by the numbers alone. For towing under 10K, and only recreationally, choosing a diesel is a preference thing, nothing more.
