I got $9k off the MSRP with my '05 Hemi powered 2500HD. Low demand. Cummins Rams were selling at MSRP. That amounted to well over $14k for the diesel option. If gas powered HD pickups were selling like diesel powered HD pickups, your math would be correct.;)
And that doesn't tell you anything about resale?
Of course it does. If it costs $10k less to buy new and is worth $5k less when it's all worn out and ready for retirement, it's still a better deal. Been there both ways. I've owned six diesels. And then it's a better deal for the used truck buyer not wanting the potential for over $10k in repairs for a drop of water.
