if you don't mind going slow in the mtns then a gasser will do you. If you enjoy keeping up with traffic on 6/7% grades up to 17 miles long then you will want the diesel...... .
Everyone has a different situation. If not they would only offer 1 option. Buy, drive what you want. Just keep that gasser out of my way on those long steep grades, please.
Carry on.
Your post is waaaay off on the facts. Climbing under full load is when horsepower spec is more important than torque spec, because modern 6 speeds can usually keep an engine near it's power peak. Other than listening to it rev, 300hp is 300 hp. Around 5000 feet ASl, sure my truck is around the horsepower of the older cummins, or 7.3 PSD, but then again, my truck is over 1000# lighter and geared better.
Your statement is only valid if you are comparing the smallest gas engine to the latest diesel, (oh wait, the smallest gasser is the Ford EB, I suppose I meant non- turbo gasser) at a lower altitude. Comparing an NA motor to FI is just a loaded situation, for someone who is looking for an answer that justifies his or her purchase.
As independently tested, the ecoboost will accelerate vastly quicker when unloaded, and similar to a modern diesel, when towing any trailer under 10K#.
As for previous posts using semis as some sort or hill climbing machines..... Passing the semis near Vail going 25mph was certainly not an issue for me.
300 hp is a good number for the average user, it will pull most interstate grades at 55 - 60 mph with a 6K TT. What more does the "average user" need? $10000 in their pocket is one idea....
