What's to examine? Do you expect CR to do an engineering analysis of every vehicle they test? I would trust the designer and builder to know whether its vehicle's components are up to handling its tow rating more than I would a magazine. I actually agree with CR on this and I own a 3500 diesel.
My son tows a 7K GVWR trailer with a RAM 1500 Hemi and it does a good job. My truck would be overkill. Double overkill if the truck is also used as a daily driver which most 1500's are.
